Perth Integrated Health’s Sports Medicine Team is no stranger to the technical world of Cycling having been involved for more than 40 years.
We have been around way before most Sports Medicine centres and have grown and evolved, keeping up with the technology, techniques and times, whilst still ensuring the practical hands on skill that we possess is never lost.
Consider the following Sports Medicine options available for the discerning Cyclist:
Deep tissue massage to reduce the effect of fluid retention, reduction of cramps and mobilisation of muscle groups and joints is what we do daily. After all many of us are also Cyclists ourselves and we understand what it takes to ensure performance and wellness on the bike
Our Physiotherapy team applies a combination of hands on skills and also embraces the use of the latest Technology to intervene with underlying or ongoing injuries faced by cyclists, whether you are a recreational rider or a high performance athlete.
Our combination of techniques includes the use of Lasers, Huber 360 dynamic treatment systems, Rocktape approved devices, TENs / EPS systems, Reverse flow Muscle / Ligament / Joint treatment via LPG Endotherapeutic techniques
Our Exercise Physiology team works on the Strength and Conditioning aspects where muscle loading / strengthening as well as dynamic movements are required both in our Gym based equipment which also includes the Watt Bike and Treadmill as well as Dynamic cognitive development in concert with Occupational Therapists within our Brain & Cognition Clinic.
They design individual programs for the discerning Cyclist also looking for Cross Training options and methods to assist with rapid Rehabilitation medicine strategies.
Our Occupational Therapist work closely with our Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists to provide the Cognitive medicine aspect to performance enhancement. Think of speed, dexterity, coordination, depth perception, decision making processes and you get the rapid idea of what Cognitive Training can do for Cyclists.
Our OT Team employs a range of techniques and technologies akin to what we do with our sister organisation, the Brain & Cognition Clinic www.braincognition.com.au
Cyclists are beginning to discern that riders who train together also remain safer, more alert and focused together, while at the same time build team cohesion as well as cognitive strategies, strength and conditioning skills that will apply whether you are in a Bunch Ride or in a Team based Competition.
For your competitive edge, we require at least 8 cyclists to enrol in our Cycling Group Training program which is conducted by Sports Medicine staff who are themselves both recreational as well as experienced competitors.
Our Sports Medicine Director specifically directs the Medical Pathways and Radiological interventions required by Cyclists in this setting to ensure that we take the less possible drug / pharmaceutical direction as required for rehabilitation and intervention. This includes the recommendation of appropriate interventions and assessments that we undertake within the same clinical setting or external as required.
We understand that while medication is at times inevitable, that cyclists and athletes prefer non medicated as well as non-invasive methods for their rapid and long-term recovery.
All of the Team members above work in concert with each other under the direction of the Sports Medicine Director. Clinical Case Rounds take place regularly where the appropriate methods, techniques and technology are discussed for the best possible solution for the cyclist. No practitioner therefore works in isolation translates as the Team centred approach for the Cyclist in need.
