WHO IS SWIMSTRONG ACADEMY?

 

The SWIMSTRONG ACADEMY (SA) is Swimming Technique Training Program for swimmers located at Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre.  SWIMSTRONG ACADEMY is part of the Perth Integrated Health Trisports Group (PIHTG). The SA fulfils our desire to be a centre of excellence for swimming and performance enhancement providing the opportunity to develop likeminded individuals from the age of 7 yrs through to young adults.

 

At its inception Swimstrong had a commencement program of 65 swimmers and in 6 years it has grown to almost 200 swimmers producing School, Club, State, National and International level swimmers. The Management Team of SA comprise of Jacqui Tan (Head Coach), Ian Wee (Managing Director) and Lucy Liongue (Sports Director) who together have more than 30 years of combined clinical and professional experience in the field of novice and high performance swimming.

 

We have our own private fully comprehensive insurance policy program which covers all of our events, participants in our swimming programs and our coaches. All coaches are qualified National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) Swimming Coaches and members of the Australian Swim Teachers and Coaches Association (ASCTA). All coaches hold appropriate Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance. All coaches hold a Working with Children Check.

 

Swimming Program

Swimstrong Academy (SA) strives to be a centre of swimming excellence providing the opportunity to develop likeminded individuals from the age of 7 yrs through to young adults, into Competition and Fitness Swimmers. Entry into the Academy is by application and selection process with swimmers selected on performance, training attendance, attitude and other defined criteria. We have a separate program for adults as well.

 

Competition Program

Development Squad — Swimmers at this level have graduated from swim school (or similar external program). This group focuses on continual development all 4 competitive strokes and skills including dives, turns and streamlines.  Swimmers are required to compete at club competition and may be introduced to selected Western Australian Swimming Association (WASA) meets.

Junior State Squad— Swimmers at this level have graduated from the Development squad and continue to focus on all 4 competitive strokes and skills.  Swimmers are introduced to more focused racing concepts. Swimmers are required to compete at club competitions and targeted WASA meets.

Senior State Squad— For swimmers who have transitioned from the Junior State Development Squad (or a similar external program) and are showing an eagerness to pursue their swimming at a higher level.  Swimmers are required to compete at club competitions and selected WASA meets.

National Squad —For swimmers who have successfully transitioned from the Senior State Development (or a similar external program) and training towards National/International goals. Swimmers are required to compete at club competitions and selected SAL and WASA meets.

Fitness Program

Junior Fitness Squad— For swimmers aged 7-12 yrs who wish to train for fitness or race at school level competitions.  Swimmers must have achieved a “pass” at Stage 12 of Education Department Swimming or a similar program.

Senior Fitness Squad—For swimmers aged 13 yrs—17yrs who wish to train for fitness or race at school level competitions.  Swimmers are required to swim a continuous 400m freestyle under 7.00 minutes to enter this program.

Adults Swimming Techniques & Rehabilitation Program

-Designed to complement your existing swimming training program or to introduce you to regular swimming technique improvement sessions.

-Suitable for all individuals across all sports who are interested in incorporating swimming into their program or adding value to their existing program. Best suited to novice swimmers, those with underlying rehabilitation needs, coming back from injury or returning to swimming after years of absence.

 Swimming Ergonomic Assessment

This unique assessment consists of 1) One-on-one session (45 mins)utilising advanced underwater camera technology for extensive in-water (pool based) filming of all aspects of the swimmers stroke from above and below the water. Corrective drills will be provided. 2) Review of the swimmers by the Principal Consultant.  Swimming is a complex set of many different movement patterns and once technique issues are identified it is possible to correct these movement patterns.

 

Perth Integrated Health Group - Centre for Sports Excellence

3.  Bike Ergonomist who specialises in correct positioning on the bike, with a sports medicine view, for those with pain, discomfort, underlying injuries or rehabilitation conditions.

6.  Sports Rehabilitation and Strengthening Team

7.  Massage and Podiatrists just to name a few.

Usually this type of unique team is only available to Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) or West Australian Institute of Sports (WAIS) athletes. We are privileged to have this performance enhancement team for our athletes and we have all of this in house too!
